Artist Bio

IMG_20180609_153250168Gadsden, Alabama artist D.A. Reddick (Tony) has gained considerable local fame as a portrait artist. Even though he has had no formal training since he began painting shortly after graduating from Talladega College, he is successful painting pictures of historical figures, sports heroes, and children in their natural settings.

His works range from a 50th Anniversary portrait of the Alabama Teachers Credit Union to action portraits of pro athletes who starred at the University of Alabama and Auburn University, and even Mrs. Carolyn Smith, mother of actor Will Smith. Utilizing acrylic on canvas as his medium of choice, Tony is most comfortable painting children. When asked why, he simply points to the beauty of a child’s innocence, and states with a laugh: “they rarely ask me to try to make them look better.” He does, however, take pride in making sure that his clients are completely satisfied with a finished project.

His artistic pursuits are not limited to painting, he also enjoys writing books and poetry.

In addition to his leisurely pursuits as an artist, Tony is the Superintendent of the Gadsden City School System. He and his wife, Belinda, have been married for 37 years. They have two children, Lindsay (William) and Evan (Carla), and one grandson, William III.
